If you have ever experienced a Shabbat dinner, you know that veggies are a big part of the dinner. And you also have probably been told since you were a kid that you have to eat your veggies. This is a simple vegetable side that can be used for everything from a Shabbat dinner to a classy date night and even just cooking at home for one.
- 2 stalks of broccoli (generally two stalks can serve 2-3 people)
- 1/2 Tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 cups of water
- Pour two cups of water into a pot and bring it to a boil.
- While the water is coming to a boil, cut the broccoli up.
- Pour the broccoli into the pot of boiling water and turn the heat down.
- Stir around and let sit and cook for 7-10 minutes (The reason for this is it both makes the broccoli cook nicer with the spices, and it makes the broccoli less tough when it comes time to eat).
- Using a colander, pour out the water and keep the broccoli.
- Spray pan with non-stick spray and turn on the burner.
- Put broccoli into the pan.
- Combine the spices with the broccoli and continue mixing until it starts to get a little dark.
All totaled, this takes maybe 20-25 minuets at most from start to finish. Why it’s good for college students: It’s simple but classy. Broccoli is good and it’s a great way to make sure you eat your veggies. It also doesn’t require a lot of time or effort and it’s filling.
